The district of Wilmersdorf is bordered by Kurfürstendamm in the north. In the west, the city highway forms the border and in the east it is the Bayerisches Viertel in Schöneberg. The Rheingauviertel, which also belongs to Wilmersdorf, is the only part of the district located south of the city highway.
Wilmersdorf
About 100 years ago, a number of upscale urban development projects were built in Wilmersdorf. However, the district also includes simpler residential areas of much more recent origin.
Olivaer Platz and Ludwigkirchplatz
The northern part of Wilmersdorf around Olivaer Platz and Ludwigkirchplatz is one of the best nightlife areas in Berlin. Here you can find elegant restaurants, cafés, bars and delicatessens. The area boasts an international flair, many galleries and diverse gastronomy. The residential buildings are a mix of elegant 1920s and 1930s apartment buildings. However, there are also highly exclusive, renovated old buildings. The area has a very high standard of living and according real estate prices.
Fehrbelliner Platz
Bundesallee, Berliner Straße, Brandenburgische Straße and Hohenzollerndamm are the main roads in Wilmersdorf. The latter two intersect at Fehrbelliner Platz. A large administrative center with Wilmersdorf City Hall, the Senate Department for Urban Development and the German Pension Insurance has established itself here. Across the street, a flea market takes place on weekends. The neighboring Preußenpark is a popular meeting place for the Asians community of Berlin.
Rheingauviertel and Schrammblock
The Rheingauvierel on Rüdesheimer Platz was built in the English country house-style, with many gables and turrets, flower borders, old trees, and cathedral-like subway stations. This area still exudes the splendor of bygone times. The "Schrammblock", a housing estate along Hildegardstraße built in the late 1920s, looks just as lavish with its large apartments, courtyard terraces and front gardens.
Schlangenbader Straße, Garden City and Artists' Colony
Schlangenbader Straße, on the other hand, is a very modern place to live. 30 years ago, a huge residential complex was built here hovering over a 600-meter stretch of the city freeway, a project that is unique in the world. The garden city at Südwestkorso was put under monumental protection some years ago. This also includes the artists' colony around Ludwig-Barnay-Platz, which makes up about 20 percent of the area.
Bundesplatz and Volkspark Wilmersdorf
The neighborhood around the traffic-clogged Bundesplatz is a middle-class residential area characteristic of Berlin. There are several bilingual schools and daycare centers here. To the north, Volkspark Wilmersdorf runs as a wide strip through the neighborhood. The largest part of the public park is taken up by a landscaped area with trees, walking paths, sunbathing lawns, sports facilities, and playgrounds. In the western area lies the elongated lake Fennsee, which is enclosed by a lakeside path.
