Welcome to the website of the civil protection service in the state of Berlin. This video gives you an overview of the structure and content of this website.
At the top left, you will always see the words “Civil Protection in the State of Berlin”. Clicking on this will take you back to the home page at any time.
Three icons are visible at the top right: one for accessibility, one for the search function and one for the navigation menu. The accessibility icon leads to content in easy language and German sign language, to an explanation of accessibility and to contact persons in case of problems.
The magnifying glass opens a search field for specific information. The icon with four horizontal lines opens the navigation menu with the main areas: warnings and information, emergency preparedness, civil defence, organisation, legal basis, volunteering and service.
The “Warnings and Information” section explains how the Berlin population is warned in dangerous situations, for example via warning apps or display boards in public spaces. Warning apps must be installed on your own devices so that you can be warned in good time. Instructions for installation can be found in this section.
It explains how and where disaster control beacons are set up in special emergency situations, such as power failures. A map shows the locations and services offered by these contact points. There is also information about explosive ordnance disposal. Much of the content is also available in English, which can be accessed via the language setting in the top right-hand corner.
In “Emergency preparedness”, you can find out how to prepare for dangerous situations. You may not be able to leave your house or flat, or there may be no electricity or water. You can use a checklist to check whether you are prepared for an emergency and, if necessary, make private provisions. You will receive tips on how to behave in the event of a disaster.
The “Civil Defence” section provides information about the responsibilities of authorities and organisations. It describes measures to protect the population from disasters, wars or other serious emergencies. Civil defence in Germany is organised as an integrated assistance system in which different levels of administration work together with the fire services, aid organisations and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.
The “Organisation” section explains terms such as “disaster” and describes responsibilities in disaster control, for example of fire brigades or the German Red Cross.
Under “Legal basis”, you will find the relevant laws for disaster control in Berlin.
The “Volunteering” section recognises the role of volunteers and provides information on awards for services in disaster control.
The “Service” section provides answers to frequently asked questions, a keyword index and contact details for emergencies. Information about events and medical services rounds off the offering.
The home page also contains an interactive map of civil protection beacons and blocks with links to more in-depth topics. Contact information and links to the imprint, data protection and accessibility can be found at the bottom of the page.
