Can I come bi?
Can I come bi?
written by Aisha Kalymzhanova and Maya Balazs
“Can I come bi” takes place over one night in Ruby’s small, art-cluttered apartment is a space alive with color, chaos, and memory. Ruby, a 24-year-old painter, has built her world out of instinct and defense. She’s confident yet insecure, funny yet bruised by past encounters with people who treated her queerness as an experiment. Emma, her lifelong best friend, couldn’t be more different. Thoughtful, deliberate, and guided by rules Ruby never cared to follow. But beneath Emma’s composure lies a quiet restlessness, a part of herself she’s never dared to name. When she shows up at Ruby’s door full of panic and seeking clarity, the evening spirals into a conversation that’s equal parts tender, combative, and absurdly funny. Through art, memory, and accidental confessions, both women begin to unlearn the stories they’ve told themselves about who they’re supposed to be. By the end of the night nothing between or within them feels as simple as before.
