Schönhauser Allee is the main shopping mile in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district. The streets begins at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Mitte and runs in a straight line about three kilometres north through Prenzlauer Berg to Pankow where it becomes Berliner Straße. After the fall of the Wall the many unrestored old buildings in this area were redeveloped which marked the beginning of Schönhauser Allee and its adjoining streets as a unique shopping and nightlife district.
Fashion chains and vintage clothes shops
Schönhauser Allee is characterized by many contrasts: The bubbly urban activities at the northern part of the street and the trendy, creative atmosphere south where it meets Torstraße, beautifully restored old buildings and modern office cuboids, and big fashion chains and cosy vintage clothes shops.
Schönhauser Allee Arcaden
At Schönhauser Allee station at the street's northern end you can find the shopping centre Schönhauser Allee Arcaden with fashion and beauty stores, supermarkets, services, bakeries and snack shops. Around the corner Eberswalder Straße there are small stores from design labels and toy shops to music and accessories shops.
Shopping and eating at Kastanienallee
Stretching from Eberswalder Straße underground station down to Mitte's Zionskirchplatz, Kastanienallee is a popular shopping and dining street containing a various mix of design stores, boutiques, second-hand shops and restaurants. Here artists and trendsetters offer unique design products and recycled fashion items in specialised concept stores.
Schönhauser Allee Arcaden got its name due to the location at Schönhauser Allee in Prenzlauer Berg. The shopping centre houses mostly popular trade chains.
