Mobile drug consumption space to be set up on Leopoldplatz in April

Due to the increasing number of people taking drugs on Leopoldplatz in Wedding, a so-called drug consumption mobile is to be located there in the future.

The consumption mobile will be a kind of trailer where addicts can inject or smoke their drugs under supervision. This was announced by the Senate Department for Health on Friday. "The extent of drug use on Leopoldplatz has continued to increase steadily in recent months and has led to increasing stress in public spaces," a press release said. The new service is to be available from April.

Consumption mobile in Schöneberg, Charlottenburg and Neukölln

Until now, the mobile drug consumption space was located in Schöneberg in front of Apostel-Paulus-Kirche. Numerous measures to curb drug use in public spaces have lead to an improved situation there. Health Senator Ulrike Gote (Green Party) stated that the Senate takes residents' concerns seriously and at the same time wants to advise and care for people with addiction problems. The aid organization Fixpunkt operates two drug consumption mobiles at different locations, including Stuttgarter Platz and Hermannstraße in Neukölln.
