New parking fees in Berlin from January

Parking in Berlin is to become more expensive. This is the plan laid out in a bill by the Senate Department for the Environment and Mobility.

According to the Senate Chancellery on Tuesday, the parking fees for each fee level are to be increased from one, two and three euros per hour to two, three and four euros. The new ordinance amending the parking fee regulations is now to be sent to the Council of Mayors for comment before the Senate finally decides on it. The increase is then to come into force at the beginning of 2023.

Parking fee exemption for e-scooters, bicycles, cargo bikes, light motorbikes and motorbikes

A general exemption from the parking fee obligation is planned for the parking or parking of e-treadrollers, bicycles, cargo bikes, light motorbikes and motorbikes, for example on parking strips. It will come into force the day after the new parking fee regulations are promulgated, which is expected to be in December.

Transition period until 30 June 2023

Because the approximately 4,500 parking ticket machines in Berlin can only be converted gradually for technical reasons, the new parking fees apply from the time of conversion. According to the information provided, the operators of the electronic parking management systems have been granted a transitional period until 30 June 2023.
