The former president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Hermann Parzinger, has been appointed as the new curator of the Capital Cultural Fund.
This was announced jointly by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the Berlin Cultural Administration. In his new role, he will chair the jury meetings, evaluate the submitted projects together with the jury, hold consultations, and represent the Capital Cultural Fund (German: Hauptstadtkulturfonds) externally.
"Hermann Parzinger has led and developed the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Germany's largest cultural institution, in an outstanding manner for almost 20 years," said Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer. "The fact that he is now taking on responsibility at the Capital Cultural Fund is a great gain for Berlin's cultural scene and cultural life in Germany as a whole." Berlin's Senator for Culture Sarah Wedl-Wilson added: "I am thrilled that a man like Hermann Parzinger is taking on this important task for us. With him as curator, the Capital Cultural Fund is in the best of hands."
Parzinger studied archaeology and history. After completing his doctorate and habilitation at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, he headed the German Archaeological Institute for many years. From 2008 to 2025, he was president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. The Capital Cultural Fund is one of the federal government's funding instruments for strengthening contemporary art and culture in the capital. It supports projects with national and international appeal.
