Two-day warning strike at BVG starting Friday

Warnstreik in Berlin

A woman walks past a sign in the entrance area of a subway station announcing the upcoming warning strike at the BVG.

The Verdi union has called for the next strike in local transport in Berlin.

On Friday and Saturday, buses, trams, and subways operated by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) will remain in their depots for 48 hours, according to the union. This is the second warning strike in the current round of collective bargaining.

S-Bahn and regional trains not affected

"The strike will begin with the early shift on Friday and end with the end of the night shift on Sunday morning," Verdi announced. The union has called for warning strikes not only in Berlin, but also in almost all other federal states. In some places, the industrial action will last only one day. The S-Bahn and regional transport operated by Deutsche Bahn will not be affected.

High demand expected for sharing services

Many commuters and students will switch to bicycles or cars. Berlin also has numerous sharing providers available. Demand for rental bikes, rental cars, and taxis is likely to be very high, especially on Friday. The BVG refers to the Jelbi stations, where many sharing services are available in one place.
