The redevelopment of Europaplatz in front of Berlin Central Station is scheduled to begin on 2 February.

This was announced by the Senate Department for Urban Development and Construction. The construction work will be carried out by Strabag. The costs amount to around €3.1 million. According to the information provided, an attractive station forecourt is to be built there in the first half of 2026.

Barrier-free movement corridors and urban green spaces

Among other things, barrier-free corridors between the station and bus and tram stops, as well as new seating and waiting areas, are planned for the square on Invalidenstraße. In addition, 30 heat-resistant trees are to be planted. A bicycle parking facility with a green roof for around 220 bicycles and eight cargo bikes is also planned. According to the information provided, the bus stop on the station forecourt will be renovated and equipped with modern display technology, and the pedestrian crossing to the tram will be extended by five metres.

Renovation in several small stages

The renovation will be carried out in small stages to keep disruption to a minimum. The central station will remain accessible via Europaplatz throughout. However, it will no longer be possible to drive across the square. Taxis will then drive via Washingtonplatz to the main station.
