The James Simon Gallery on Museum Island is the hub of the World Heritage-listed Pergamon Museum, Old National Gallery, Bode Museum, Old Museum and New Museum ensembles.

James Simon Gallery

The James-Simon-Gallery was opened on 12 July 2019 in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU). The Pergamon Museum can currently be reached directly through the 134 million euro building via an entrance on the upper floor and the Neues Museum, which is connected to the basement.

The building, designed by British star architect David Chipperfield, is named after entrepreneur and art collector James Simon (1851-1932), whose donations have enriched Berlin's museums with around 10,000 objects. These include the famous bust of Nefertiti, the chief wife of the Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten from the 14th century BC.
