Alfilm - Arabic Film Festival

Ein Man hält eine Filmklappe

The festival "Alfilm" presents the best and newest films from the Arab world.

The Arabian Film Festival (Alfilm) shows over 40 films by Arab directors and from Arab countries that were previously hardly known to European audiences. The festival is organized by the Zentrum für arabische Filmkunst und Kultur e.V., an ideologically and politically independent association. It was founded with the aim of providing a platform for filmmaking from Arab countries in Germany and countering cultural stereotypes about the Arab world with images and stories.

Alfilm: Highlights 2025

This year, the festival will open with the Berlin premiere of "To a Land unknown" by Mahdi Fleifel. The film is set in Athens and tells the story of cousins Chatila and Reda, who - like many Palestinians around the world - lead a life of uncertainty. As refugees stranded at the borders of Europe, they dream of Germany, where they hope for a better future and a decent life.

As in previous years, audiences can expect a diverse program divided into two sections: The "Alfilm Selection" presents the contemporary Arab cinema landscape with productions from the last two years. "Alfilm Spotlight" focuses on speculative fiction and the subversive examination of the (post)colonial entanglements of the Arab region.

A master class, panel discussions, film talks and the closing party will take place at the Gretchen on April 30.
