Women on View. An aesthetic of desire in advertising
26 January - 30 March 2019
The advertising industry has always staged the female body for better marketing of products and services. The photo exhibition "Women on View" at the gallery Chaussee 36 is dedicated to the eroticization of the female body in advertising photography.
The depiction of the undressed, flawless human body is subject to a long tradition in Western art. Naked bodies, especially of women, belong to the permanent media goods and are an indispensable part of the advertising industry.
Works by Lindbergh, Horst P. Horst and von Unwerth
The group exhibition "Women on View" deals with the eroticization of the female body in advertising photography - starting with the early product advertising of the 1940s, through the era of the hyper eroticization of women in the 1990s to contemporary positions in advertising photography. Legendary posters and photographs by renowned artists such as Peter Lindbergh, Horst P. Horst, Erwin Blumenfeld, Ellen von Unwerth, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Irving Penn and Jeanloup Sieff will be on display.
