Every summer, Berlin is transformed into a stronghold of poetry for a week. Over 150 poets and artists from all over the world come to the Berlin Poetry Festival (Poesiefestival Berlin) and present current trends in contemporary poetry.

In addition to books, poetry has long since sought out other forms of expression and is actively experimenting with theater, performance art, music, dance, film and digital media. The festival brings poetry to life in all its diverse forms. The Poetry Festival demonstrates the power and inspirational potential of poetry. It draws attention to the art of language, explores new avenues of presentation, publication, and distribution, and achieves a global reach. It is also a gathering place for directors of poetry festivals from around the world.

Poetry Festival 2026: Highlights

The festival will focus on three themes in 2026: myths, grief, and a critical reassessment of European literature. There will also be themed evenings, international readings, and decentralized formats throughout the city. Special highlights include a reading by Canadian poet Anne Carson at the Academy of Arts on May 24 and Valzhyna Mort's Berlin Speech on Poetry at silent green on June 2. Readings, discussions, and other events will rewrite old narratives, reveal power relations, and explore new ways of expressing oneself.
