In early November Berlin becomes jazzy. For 50 years, jazz musicians from Berlin and all over the world have come together to play at the Jazzfest, making the festival one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. Among its guests have been big names such as Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington. The Jazzfest Berlin is part of the Berliner Festspiele.
Jazzfest Berlin 2017
Among the 150 participating jazz musicians and ensembles in 2017 were Tyshawn Sorey, Shabaka & the Ancestors, Gebhard Ullmann, Angelika Niescier, Geir Lysne & NDR Bigband, Nels Cline, Chris Tordini, Ambrose Akinmusire, Michael Wollny, and Mônica Vasconcelos.
Nadin Deventer new artistic director starting in 2018
Following Richard Williams at the artistic helm for three years, curator Nadin Deventer takes on the artistic direction of Jazzfest Berlin from 2018 onwards.
