When it comes to construction in Berlin, the black-red state government is aiming for more speed.
To this end, the state parliament passed the Schneller-Bauen-Gesetz (Faster Construction Law) with the votes of the CDU and SPD. The SPD called the law an important step in the right direction, while the CDU called it the most comprehensive reform of planning and approval law since reunification.
Building Senator Christian Gaebler (SPD), who is largely responsible for the project, did not shy away from big words either."Housing is the central social issue of our time," he said, pointing to rising rents. The only way to slow down this development is through new construction. The processes involved would have to become simpler and more effective. This is precisely the aim of the law. "Building will become faster, cheaper and easier to plan." The legislative project will also result in numerous changes to existing state laws. Among other things, responsibilities will be reorganized and deadlines shortened.
