Charlottenburg is as large as a medium-sized city - and just as diverse. The area between Kurfürstendamm and Charlottenburg Palace is dominated by renovated and sometimes lavishly ornamented old buildings. The Westend neighborhood is one of the most exclusive residential areas in Berlin. In the former workers' housing estate Siemensstadt, modernist architects realized their ideas of urban apartment buildings. Meanwhile, Kurfürstendamm and its side streets are among the most noble addresses Berlin has to offer, and the apartments in the magnificent art nouveau buildings are prohibitively expensive as a result. In contrast, the neighborhoods north of Charlottenburg palace provide more affordable housing. Overall, rents in Charlottenburg are above the Berlin average.

Residential Areas
Location
Charlottenburg is located east of the river Havel and mostly south of the river Spree (with the exception of Charlottenburg-North). The district sits in the central-western part of Berlin.
Public Transport
Charlottenburg is very well connected to public transport, especially in its central areas. There are four underground lines (U2, U7, U1, U9) and two suburban railway lines - the Stadtbahn and the Ringbahn. The district is also served by numerous buses.
Intercity and Long-Distance Transport
The Zoologischer Garten railway station had to pass its rank as the largest long-distance station on to the recently built central station, Berlin-Hauptbahnhof. Nevertheless, some long-distance trains still run here, though mainly local ones.
Transport Axes
Drivers in Charlottenburg are connected to the city highway (A111 and A100). Transport axes in the west-east direction are Heckerdamm to the north, Spandauer Damm/Otto-Suhr-Allee/Straße des 17. Juni from Spandau to Brandenburger Tor, Heerstraße/Kaiserdamm/Bismarckstraße/17.Juni from Westend to Brandenburger Tor or Heerstraße/Kantstraße to Zoologischer Garten, and Ku'damm/Clayallee to Zehlendorf.
