Karl-Marx-Allee 71–91B
Construction period: 1952
Architecture: collective Richard Paulick

Prestigious “palace for labourers”

Block C North and C South are probably* the most impressive of the seven blocks* built on Karl-Marx-Allee by six architecture collectives between 1952 and 1960.

Architect Richard Paulick coordinated all building activities on the avenue. His role could be a reason for the creativity and diligence in the structure and decorative elements of Block C. Block C was obviously to be an archetypal showpiece for the development. The façades of block C North and C South mirror one another façades 260 metres in length and have a central focus. They are like castles or palaces from the baroque or classical periods, with recessed central sections, many windows, striking portals and ornamentation details.

The expressive rooftop structures with intricate framing are particularly impactful. The façades are finished in decorative ceramic panels.
