Living in transverse panel buildings
Standardised and economically optimised: that was the government target for the new approach to housing construction.
Living in Q P construction type residential buildings, with large panels transverse (Querplatte in German) to the façade, was modern living.
The walls were lightweight concrete, the rooms exactly 3.60 m in width, the built-in kitchens were 6 m² with instantaneous water heaters, there were interior bathrooms with bathtubs and balconies suitable for plants. The rent included some luxuries: district heating, lifts and waste disposal units.
