Open Heritage Day (Tag des offenen Denkmals) in September is
Germany’s biggest and most popular heritage event. It
offers the chance to visit historical landmarks that are either
not usually open to the public, or would normally charge an
entrance fee to visitors. It also includes tours, events and
activities related to historical architecture and gardens. The
event connects people with their local places and helps to
build a sense of belonging and pride.
Organized by volunteers everything is free of charge.
In Berlin the programme is exceptionally large and offers a
great variety of open monuments and guided tours: from
churchtowers to power plants, from the Wall to political
prisons or private gardens.
