What can a seemingly ordinary object tell us about the history of Marzahn-Hellersdorf? The special exhibition “Gifted. Told. Preserved. – Objects Tell the District’s History” invites visitors to discover just that.
As part of the “Tell Me About Your Object!” project, residents of the district have been bringing personal items and their stories to the museum since June 2025. A selection of these mementos is on display—many from the GDR era as well as the years leading up to and following German reunification. Objects, photos, and personal memories illustrate just how closely everyday items are linked to individual experiences. Audio stations featuring personal narratives from the donors enrich the exhibition.
“Gifted. Told. Preserved.” was curated by Marie Pommer and Fabio Huuk as part of their internship. The exhibition explores how memories can be conveyed through objects—and encourages visitors to reflect on their own past.
