1102.4: Rapid increase in Coronavirus incidence in Berlin

The Coronavirus incidence in Berlin skyrocketed overnight. The hospitalization rate also rose rapidly and is once again in the critical range.

As of Wednesday morning (March 16, 2022), the seven-day incidence was at 1102.4, up from 871.8 the day before. According to data published in the Senate's situation report, 8834 new cases of infection were reported in one day. A total of 816,654 Corona infections have been detected in Berlin since the beginning of the pandemic.

Hospitalization rate: warning light on red

The number of people hospitalized with a Coronavirus infection in Berlin has also increased once again. On Wednesday, this so-called hospitalization incidence was at 19.1 per 100,000 inhabitants. The associated traffic light of the Coronavirus warning system from the Senate flashed red, signaling a value in the critical range.

Current Corona measures valid until end of March

On Tuesday (March 15, 2022), Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) announced the Senate decision to keep the existing Coronavirus measures in place until March 31. From April 1, only a few basic protective measures will remain mandatory, such as masks on public transport and in hospitals and nursing homes as well as testing in schools.
