The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is set to receive two new buildings in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The Berlin Senate has approved the draft zoning plan, according to a statement from the Senate Chancellery.

The project involves a site located in the immediate vicinity of the ministry, north of Anhalter Straße and east of Stresemannstraße. Plans call for the construction of a new six-story and an eleven-story building there to provide additional office space for the ministry.

Europahaus needs to be renovated

The background to this is, on the one hand, the necessary renovation of the Europahaus on Stresemannstraße, which is used by the ministry. On the other hand, the number of employees there has increased, and the ministry wishes to consolidate its Berlin locations. The new building is to be constructed under the responsibility of the Federal Agency for Real Estate. It offers the opportunity to sustainably redevelop a previously vacant lot and to connect the surrounding urban spaces, said Senator for Urban Development Christian Gaebler (SPD).
