2G rule in retail remains in place

Coronavirus - 2G-Regel im Einzelhandel

For the time being, people in Berlin must continue to prove whether they have been vaccinated or have recovered when shopping in many places.

Jarasch: Wrong time for this debate

Whether it's a fashion or an electronics store, the Senate doesn't want to suspend the 2G rule in retail just yet. It is the wrong time to hold such a debate, Senator for Transport Bettina Jarasch said on Tuesday (Feb. 1, 2022) after the Senate meeting.

Some federal states overturn 2G rule in retail sector

There had been callsfor the abolition of the rule, which only allows vaccinated or convalescent persons to shop in specialist retailers, from the Berlin-Brandenburg Trade Association, the CDU's Union of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses, and the German Retail Association (HDE). In several German states, the 2G rule no longer applies in retail stores. Jarasch pointed out that the Senate had instead already decided to make things easier for retailers in practice. For example, smaller stores do no longer have to check the 2G rule right at the entrance.
