The Berlin District Court (Landgericht) is now working entirely with electronic files in civil proceedings.
Initially, there will be a trial operation as a preliminary stage, the Senate Department for Justice announced on Monday. More than 400 users are now working with the electronic court file (eFile). From December 4, it will also be introduced at the superior Court of Justice (Kammergericht) in civil and family cases. By 2024, the eFile is also to be gradually introduced at the ten district courts.
A total of twelve courts with more than 3,000 employees are to be converted to electronic file operation by the mandatory deadline for exclusive electronic file management throughout Germany on January 1, 2026. Berlin's Senator for Justice Felor Badenberg announced: "A modern and efficient rule of law also includes modern working methods." Now another important step has been taken in the direction of digital justice.
