Start of the school summer holidays: Extremely busy roads expected

ADAC erwartet extrem volle Straßen zu Ferienbeginn

Many vacationers cover long distances by car. At the start of the school summer holidays, the ADAC therefore expects extremely busy roads in Berlin and Brandenburg.

The desire to travel is unbroken and many people are traveling by car, a spokeswoman for the automobile association ADAC stated in response to a dpa inquiry. She expects a significant increase in traffic compared to previous years and also to the level before the Coronavirus pandemic. Over the Easter and Whitsun holidays, significantly more people than usual had been on the road already.

Berliner Ring, A115 and A19 especially affected

Due to the increased cost of air travel, even far-away destinations such as Croatia or Spain are once again being driven to by car, the spokeswoman said. The many construction sites throughout Germany are also causing traffic congestion. Experts expect major problems on the Berliner Ring, on the A15 near Cottbus in the direction of Forst, and on the A19 at the Wittstock junction as far as the Wittstock/Dosse interchange.

Avoid trips over the weekend if possible

Those who can should schedule longer trips on weekdays through Thursday, the spokeswoman said. On school holiday weekends, the ADAC expects "extremely busy" roads. In addition, travelers should avoid rush-hour traffic if possible. The impact of the Deutschland Ticket on road traffic is hardly noticeable, the ADAC spokeswoman said. Many people had already completed their vacation planning before the introduction of the ticket in May.
