For better route information for cyclists in online map services, the Berlin Senate Department is cooperating with the US provider Google, among others.

"We are in communication with Google to find out which data sets are useful and needed in bicycle routing," the Senate Department for Transport said in response to a request on Friday. "These include, for example, the cycle road network, the road categories and, in the long term, the new cycle network.

Providing more detailed route information for cyclists

The Senate wants to make the data available to other providers and projects in an automated and public way. "If interested providers have a need, they can contact us until then," it said. Google now offers more detailed route information for cyclists on its map service based on the Senate's data. This includes, for example, information on how high the proportion of independent cycle paths or marked cycle lanes are along the route.
