According to the Senate, Berlin's population is expected to grow to almost 4 million people by 2040.
This is the result of the "Population Forecast 2021 - 2040," which Urban Development Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) presented to the Senate on Tuesday. "Our city is growing, especially in Pankow and Treptow-Köpenick," said the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) on Tuesday following the Senate meeting.
Overall, Berlin's population is growing by 5 percent to a total of 3.963 million people. However, growth varies from district to district. According to the forecast, the districts of Pankow (plus 37,000) and Treptow-Köpenick (plus 25,300) will see the most growth, at 9 percent each. The least growth is expected in Steglitz-Zehlendorf (plus 1,900), at 0.6 percent.
