9 Euro Ticket: Sale starts on Friday, extended offer

9-Euro-Ticket

A digital 9-euro monthly pass of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association is displayed in the BVG app on a smartphone.

The sale of the 9 Euro Ticket in Berlin has started.

The special ticket for the months of June, July and August has already been available in the BVG app since Friday morning (May 20, 2022). In the BVG customer centers, it will be available from Saturday. Meanwhile, the S-Bahn will initially only offer the monthly ticket at S-Bahn sales points. Ticket sale will start Saturday there as well, the S-Bahn announced. The ticket will not be available at ticket machines until Monday.

Special ticket is part of relief package for commuters

With the special monthly ticket, passengers will be able to travel on public transport all over Germany - in all cities and across all networks. The special tickets are to be offered for June, July and August. They cost €9 per month, much less than a normal monthly ticket. The offer is intended to relieve commuters because of high energy prices and to encourage people to switch to buses and trains in order to protect the climate.

Additional train connections and increased frequency

As the Senate Department for the Environment, Urban Mobility, Consumer Protection and Climate Action announced on Thursday (May 19, 2022), many public transport lines in Berlin will increase their frequency in June, July and August to cope with the increased demand. On several bus, subway and S-Bahn lines, the frequency will be halved, the number of cars increased or additional trips offered on weekends. Additional trains to the Baltic Sea are also planned in coordination with the states of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
