Last year, Berliner Wasserbetriebe treated slightly less wastewater at its treatment plants than in the previous year.
The volume of wastewater fell from 264.7 million cubic metres to 257 million cubic metres, according to the water utility. At the same time, drinking water sales rose slightly to 216.5 million cubic metres (2024: 214.3 million cubic metres). One cubic metre is equal to 1,000 litres.
"The capital region is growing and our environment is changing, which presents challenges for the water utility. We are rising to these challenges and making our infrastructure more robust and the city more resilient every day," said CEO Frank Bruckmann. Last year, the water utility invested more than 540 million euros in, among other things, the refurbishment, renewal and expansion of the approximately 19,000-kilometre-long pipe and sewer network, as well as in sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and waterworks.
