Starting May 1, an indefinite ban on alcohol will be in effect at Zoo Station and Ostbahnhof in Berlin.

The state-owned company announced that the measure is intended to ensure greater cleanliness and give passengers a greater sense of security. Violators face expulsion from the premises and bans from entering. The "B.Z." had previously reported on this.

Special Program to improve cleanliness and safety at train stations

According to an internal memo to employees, the railway company reserves the right to file criminal charges in the event of repeated violations. The memo states that the consumption of alcohol and the carrying of such beverages in open containers are prohibited. It remains to be seen whether the ban will be extended to other train stations in the capital. The ban is part of a special program by the railway company aimed at improving cleanliness and safety at stations and on trains.
