The health of Berlin's street trees has improved slightly.
In 2025, 47 percent of the trees surveyed were deemed healthy, compared to 44 percent in 2020, according to the latest report on the condition of street trees by the Senate Department for the Environment.
Since 1978, experts have been examining tree canopies every five years using aerial photographs. According to the findings, the plane tree showed the greatest improvement: the proportion of healthy trees rose from 30 to 40 percent. For maple trees, the percentage of undamaged trees was 33 percent (2020: 29 percent), according to the report. The most common street tree in Berlin, the linden, remained at a similar level to the last survey, with 54 percent of trees in good health, according to the data. In total, the experts assessed 5,002 trees and rated their vitality on a five-point scale.
