On the edge of Britzer Garten stands one of Berlin's last fully operational windmills. The Britzer Mühle is the only one of the capital's original mills that still grinds flour using wind power.

Of the 150 windmills that once stood in Berlin, eight have survived. The Britzer Mühle (Britz Mill) is one of four that still stands at its original location and one of two that are still fully operational. The Marzahn post mill is also operational, but is not considered a historic windmill.

Over 160 years of mill history

Standing 20 meters tall, with a dodecagonal shape, two sets of millstones and blades 12 meters long, the Britz Mill, built in 1865, is a rarity. On windy days, visitors can see the old mill in action. But even when there is no wind, a visit is well worth it: the inner workings of the mill and its grinding mechanisms as well as the building's fascinating history are explained in an engaging way.
