UNICEF Photo of the Year Award

January 19 - February 26, 2023

The winning images of the 2022 "UNICEF Photo of the Year" competition will be presented in an exhibition at the Willy Brandt Haus in Berlin.

Every year, UNICEF Germany awards its internationaö Photo of the Year Award for pictures and reports by professional photojournalists that document the personalities and living conditions of children.

UNICEF Photo of the Year 2022: Eduardo Soteras

The photographer Eduardo Soteras from Argentina has been documenting the situation of children in the Ethiopian region of Tigray in particular since 2020. In the destroyed library of an elementary school in the Tigray region, two children are engrossed in books. The smiles on their faces betray a moment of small bliss. It is a rare moment. For the majority of the approximately 5.2 million people in the region in northern Ethiopia are suffering from violence, displacement, malnutrition and a lack of drinking water as a result of the armed conflict with the central government.
