ISTAF is the world's biggest one-day athletics event. Every year around 50,000 spectators attend the event. 180 world class athletes compete in 15 disciplines in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Several world champions and Olympic medalists are among the athletes every year.

History of ISTAF

ISTAF Berlin has a very long tradition. It was established in 1937. The sports event got its name when three of Berlin’s preeminent athletics associations - the Berlin Sport-Club (BSC), the Sport-Club Charlottenburg (SCC) and the Deutsche Sport-Club- joined forces in staging the ISTAF to avoid conflicting meeting dates.

ISTAF Berlin - a leading sports event

Today, the athletics festival is one of the world's leading sports meetings. Between 1998 and 2002 the ISTAF was the final station of the Golden League, a new series of the world’ s six leading meetings, founded by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
