Where are we today?

We’re here at the newly established location of the House of Games Berlin, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to tell you exactly where it is. It’s only a two-minute walk from the Waschauer Straße train station and a 30-minute drive from the airport.

What sparked the idea of a House of Games in Berlin?

The idea for the House of Games originated from within the industry itself. The need and desire for it has existed for a long time. In Berlin, there has always been the idea of a gaming hub, but everyone struggled with how to implement it into the city’s economic system. In 2022, we seized the opportunity to create the House of Games Berlin when Ubisoft, our anchor tenant, was looking for a new office. A couple of people and institutions came together at that time, including the game association, medianet, and the Senate and Senate Chancellery. They were all willing to contribute to the idea. Now, three years later, we’re opening the House of Games.

Who is the House of Games Berlin for?

The House of Games is more than just a workplace. It’s a place where people come together. We are trying to establish a whole ecosystem of games and creative technology here. This includes people from the gaming industry, such as game studios – indies and AAA –, startups, and people from esports and research and education. We also want to open up to the public because we are implementing places and events at the House of Games for people interested in the gaming industry.

What’s your favourite thing about this project?

I love everything about the project, but my favorite part is actually its interdisciplinary nature. I love the idea of bringing people together from different backgrounds and approaches.

When can we expect the opening?

Today, we are here to determine the location. After that, we will begin negotiating with all the interested tenants on the waiting list. First, of course, are the people we already know from the steering committee.

What makes Berlin the games capital?

Apart from the fact that we have more than 300 industry players and almost four thousand people working in the industry in the whole capital region, we are also a lovely place to live. People just want to be in Berlin, of course.
