Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame

A story of love, courage, and humanity: Disney's “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” tells the moving story of the disfigured Quasimodo, who grows up hidden high above the rooftops of Paris.

When he ventures out among the people for the first time during the Festival of Fools, he gets into trouble and meets the courageous Esmeralda, who offers him compassion and friendship. Their encounter sparks a touching story of exclusion, love, and justice—set against the magnificent backdrop of Notre-Dame Cathedral, with breathtaking music and powerful emotions. Starting in October 2026, the new German-language production by the Budapest Operetta Theater will embark on its first major tour through Germany and Switzerland.

Based on Victor Hugo’s world-famous novel, the musical combines the unforgettable Disney songs by Alan Menken, the multiple Oscar-winning composer, and the equally Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Powerful choruses, tender ballads, and a rousing live orchestral arrangement create a stage epic full of passion, hope, and humanity. Over 70 performers, magnificent costumes, and an impressive set design featuring Gothic architecture and giant bells transport the audience to the monumental Paris of the 15th century—an unforgettable live experience that will linger in the memory for a long time to come.
