With their project They Have Waited Long Enough, Katharine Dain and the Ragazze Quartet tell the stories of famous and lesser-known women from a new perspective. The artists have commissioned a number of contemporary female composers to create works for soprano, string quartet, and different solo instruments that lend a voice to these long-silenced figures. Mythological characters including Medea and Penelope appear side by side with historical figures such as María San Juan de Garonda, a 16th-century Basque midwife (sortzain) who was persecuted as a witch and burned at the stake.
