Pyronale 2026: World Fireworks Championship

When six of the world’s best fireworks teams compete against each other on September 25 and 26 at the Maifeld near the Olympic Stadium, the Pyronale will celebrate its 20th anniversary and highlight a special interplay: that of color and music.

For this year’s anniversary edition, two colors were therefore selected that are considered particularly challenging and expressive in pyrotechnics: gold and green.

The Pyronale 2026 also sets the tone musically: This year’s modern compulsory piece, which all six teams will perform to the same score, is “Pyro Passion” by Steve Last. The composer has been shaping the Pyronale’s distinctive sound for several years now. How creatively the teams coordinate their pyrotechnic displays with this identical template will be one of the most exciting moments of comparison of the evening.

Each show follows a three-part structure consisting of a compulsory segment and a freestyle segment. The show opens with a 1.5- to 2-minute sequence in the two specified colors. This is followed by a 3- to 4-minute segment set to the compulsory music “Pyro Passion.” In the grand finale, the teams showcase their full range of skills in a 10- to 12-minute freestyle routine—set to music of their own choosing from the “100 Best of Classical.” In total, each team enchants the sky for 16 to 18 minutes across an area of approximately 400 by 300 meters.

The performances will be judged by a jury of ten celebrities and creative professionals, as well as ten industry experts; the audience will also have a 30 percent say in the outcome through SMS voting. Both evenings will conclude with a four- to five-minute final fireworks display—which is not part of the competition but is no less spectacular. A supporting program featuring additional fireworks shows and music stages makes the 2026 Pyronale a family event for everyone who loves fireworks.
