Joined by a group of longtime musical partners, violist Nils Mönkemeyer presents a selection of virtuoso violin sonatas from the 17th and 18th centuries in arrangements for his instrument. In addition to Vivaldi, Telemann, and other well-known names, the program also includes works by two distinguished female artists who have been all but forgotten: French harpsichordist Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre and Isabella Leonarda, a nun and composer whose Op. 16 Sonatas were among the first instrumental works ever published by a woman.
