At Villa Schöningen, some 90 works by more than 60 international artists spanning three centuries explore the forest as a motif, a space of memory, and a cultural canvas.

Villa Schöningen, in collaboration with the Berlin exhibition platform Passage, presents the exhibition “Among Trees.”

Historical paintings, drawings, and photographs engage in a dialogue with contemporary sculptures, installations, and paintings, offering a multifaceted perspective on one of the oldest yet most relevant themes in art history. The exhibition was curated by Victor Auberjonois.

By inviting Victor Auberjonois, Villa Schöningen is deliberately opening its program to a new curatorial perspective. This collaboration reflects the institution’s commitment to continually examining historical and contemporary art from different angles and to offering new interpretations of the space through shifting curatorial approaches. Auberjonois combines international contemporary art with works from the Döpfner Collection as well as significant historical loans. This dialogic approach to the collection aligns with Villa Schöningen’s guiding principle of understanding art history not as a closed narrative, but as a living body of work that can be reexamined anew in every present moment.
