Resistance in Ravensbrück Women’s Concentration Camp

Despite the risk of death, malnutrition, and permanent surveillance, resistance was also possible in concentration camps. It had to take different forms under the extreme conditions of the camps than in the outside world. Resistance was often manifested in everyday acts of self-assertion, such as holding firm to religious rituals or joint cultural activities.
Despite threats of harsh punishments, a few women nonetheless dared to sabotage forced labor in the arms industry, refuse to obey commands, or smuggle documents out of the camp to bear witness to the crimes of the SS.
This exhibition focuses on biographies and acts of resistance by sixteen women imprisoned in Ravensbrück concentration camp, who used what scope they had individually to resist the Nazi regime.
The exhibition is on display at the German Resistance Memorial Center in the special exhibition area on the first floor from September 24, 2026, to April 4, 2027.
