Twenty-four artists are presenting new works at the Academy building on Hanseatenweg that they developed during their residencies. They explore scope for artistic creation and action in times of diverse and escalating crises and address themes of loss and memory, body and healing, protection and community.

The exhibition features photographs, prints, collages, video works, spatial and sound installations, sculptures, drawings, and assemblages. A symposium on April 17 will discuss questions of art, ecology, and gender, drawing on the exhibits on display. Performances, concerts, and readings are scheduled for April 25.

The title “Vessel & Voyager” refers to the subjects of vessels and travelers, which are prominent in artistic, cultural, and spiritual contexts. The exhibition uses “vessel” in its meaning as a container that stores, transmits, and constantly transforms various narratives, messages, and voices. “Voyager,” in turn, stands for travelers who create connections between places, generations, and times. In relation to these motifs, the works come together to form a contemporary exhibition that renegotiates questions of tradition, responsibility, and vulnerability.
