Objects. History. Stories.

View of the collection

We are used to thinking of history as a perception in time and a linear sequence. But it is also tied to places, spaces and settings. History not only tells of the changing times, but also of change in spaces. The exhibition "Objects. History. Stories" takes this idea as its starting point and questions selected objects from different eras about their origins and their movements. In doing so, it explores the transformation of political, social and cultural spaces.

The focus is on the museum's historically evolved collection, which, as a place of historical memory that is also subject to constant change, also reflects the specific collecting practices of each of the German Historical Museum's predecessor institutions: the Hall of Fame of the Prussian-Brandenburg army, the Army Museum of the Nazi regime, the Museum of German History of the GDR and the merger with the DHM, which was founded in West Berlin in 1987.Translated with DeepL
