Ein Wochenende im Zeichen der Schriftgestaltung: Was ist der neueste Stand im Type Design? Welche schriftgestalterischen Ansätze entstehen in internationalen Masterstudiengängen? Im Rahmen von „Mastering Type“ geben Entwerfer*innen mit den Type Talks am 25. April 2026 Einblicke in aktuelle Entwicklungen und präsentieren ihre Arbeiten. Die begleitende Pop-Up-Ausstellung kann bis 26. April 2026 besucht werden.
„Mastering Type“ ist eine Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsreihe, die neue Schriftentwürfe aus internationalen Masterstudiengängen präsentiert, organisiert von Lucas de Groot (Grafikdesigner und Dozent an der Fachhochschule Potsdam) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Typostammtisch Berlin. 2026 feiert die Reihe ihr zehnjähriges Bestehen mit der Jubiläumsausgabe am Kulturforum.
Type Talks am 25. April 2026
Am Samstag, den 25. April 2026, von 10 bis 18 Uhr, stellen Entwerfer*innen in einer Vortragsreihe mit Workshop ausgewählte Schriftentwürfe vor und diskutieren diese gemeinsam mit dem Publikum. Die Veranstaltung findet in der Jubiläumsschau „Mastering Type“ statt. Sie ist öffentlich und kostenlos.
Zusätzlich werden als „Collection Break“ historische Schriftobjekte aus den Sammlungen der Kunstbibliothek präsentiert.

Die Jubiläumsschau „Mastering Type“ am Kulturforum gibt am 25. und 26. April 2026 in großformatigen Typo-Plakaten einen Überblick über die letzte Dekade. Der Eintritt ist frei.
Type Design heute
Die Ausbildung Type Design, also das Entwerfen einer Schriftart, ist ein besonderer Studiengang. Zu den für dieses Studium renommierten Orten zählen TypeMedia Den Haag (NL), Écal Lausanne (CH), Nancy (FR), Amiens (FR), Buenos Aires (AR), Reading (UK) und TypeParis (FR). Für Abschlussarbeiten werden die gestalteten Schriften im Format eines Plakats in der Größe 60 x 124 cm präsentiert, zusammen mit einem Process Book, das Konzept, Ideen und Arbeitsschritte dokumentiert. Der Titel „Mastering Type“ spielt an auf den Status des Abschlusses, ein spezialisierter Master in Grafikdesign, und meint gleichzeitig das Meistern des Entwurfs einer Schriftart.
