The exhibition is dedicated to a topic that has hardly been researched to date and focuses on the living and working conditions of the women deployed in the commandos. With their work, they had to contribute to maintaining the supply, operation and maintenance of the central remand prison of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) - in the kitchen, as cleaners, sewing, washing and ironing, in the carpentry and in the car repair shop. The new permanent exhibition is on display in a preserved 500 square meter kitchen and living wing of the prison. Prisoners from the "New Kitchen" women's detachment worked and were housed here until 1989. Historical furniture and equipment as well as kitchen utensils are presented in their original locations and allow visitors to immerse themselves in the prisoners' everyday life and work. In order to be able to leave the kitchen wing with its various working and living spaces in their original state, the memorial is breaking new ground in digital mediation: the central exhibition content such as photos, video and audio documents, reports from contemporary witnesses and excerpts from informer reports to the Stasi are made accessible via an augmented reality app. Volumetric recordings of contemporary witnesses in 3D also enable virtual encounters with former prisoners.Translated with DeepL
