How do we remember? How do you remember?

An exhibition on the transformation and significance of remembrance

The exhibition invites visitors to discover remembrance as something that is both personal and collective.

Located at the historic site of the former Nazi forced labour camp, the exhibition provides insights into the history of the grounds and its development into today's documentation center. We showcase how memory is formed, how contested it can be, and what role commemoration plays in our present day.

Through selected objects from our collection, the exhibition presents various forms of remembering. It highlights personal memories, family recollections, and societal ways of remembering Nazi forced labor. A look across Berlin's urban space further illustrates how diverse public commemoration can be.

Remembrance is not a closed process: it changes, is passed on, and thrives on participation. Interactive stations invite visitors to discover, research, and contribute their own thoughts.

Join us in a dialogue about the past, present, and future of memory—and its significance for our democratic society.

Students from the Archenhold-Gymnasium in Schöneweide, participants of an international youth exchange, and our neighbors helped design this exhibition.
