With a background in sculpture, artist Veronika Witte (*1962) uses a wide variety of media to explore the appearance and role of the body in contemporary society: as an ideal, as capital, and as a resource amid increasing disembodiment in the age of digital technologies.

Text and visual material gathered through artistic field research forms the basis for many of her sculptures, videos, and installations. The series *Liquid Identities* and *Ghosted Bodies*, presented together for the first time at the Gotisches Haus, are constructed artistic bodies that explore both static and aesthetic boundaries.

Witte’s sculptures, with their cold, silvery sheen and vibrant colors, defy clear categorization. They appear both organic and artificial, familiar and alien—like alternative life forms that simultaneously reject all standardized ideals of the human body.

Her presence interacts with the sound of artificial voices. Generated by speech-recognition software, these voices read fragments of an endless, cryptic text: the genetic foundation that characterizes all human beings while revealing nothing about their individual identities. Within the hybrid architecture of the Gothic House, the installations—comprising sound, video, and amorphous sculptures—unfold an ambivalent interplay between the so-called human and the creaturely, between emptiness and mass, and between amorphous and acoustic physicality.
