BEYOND LINES is a dance performance by LUNA PARK—in collaboration with the Tränenpalast, one of Berlin’s most significant memorial sites.

The performance explores the theme of crossing borders: the movements of departure, waiting, fear, and hope. Leaving behind one’s homeland, language, and the familiar. The courage to take a step into the unknown.

At the Tränenpalast—a place of farewell, control, and transition—choreographic images of resistance, loss, and change take shape. Bodies seek paths through obstacles, hesitate, carry, fall, rise again, and forge new connections.

The choreography invites the audience to experience the Tränenpalast as a place of remembrance and, at the same time, as a place of new encounters. It asks what boundaries people must overcome—then as now—and what movements emerge when we find the courage to cross them.

Performance times:

6:00 p.m., doors open at 5:45 p.m.

7:00 p.m., doors open at 6:45 p.m.

BEYOND LINES is a joint project of the Haus der Geschichte Foundation at the Tränenpalast and the LUNA PARK e.V. initiative, presented as part of this year’s Berlin Freedom Week.

LUNA PARK has been combining professional dance production with sociocultural practice since 2003. In its work, the team develops choreographic architectures in which bodies, space, and social relationships are constantly renegotiated. Together with people of different generations and cultural backgrounds, spaces for encounter, participation, and social dialogue are created.

The Tränenpalast, a central border crossing point between 1962 and 1989, is a significant symbol of the division of Germany and serves as a reminder of the overcoming of the SED dictatorship and the struggle for freedom and democracy. Like the museum at the Kulturbrauerei, it is part of the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to educate the public about German contemporary history after 1945 and to maintain a comprehensive collection related to this period. Admission to the exhibitions is free.Translated with DeepL
