Beeple in conversation with Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Lisa Botti

The conversation will explore Beeple’s artistic practice, from his longrunning digital project Everydays to his performative installation Regular Animals, as well as broader questions of technology, AI, media, and contemporary culture. The conversation will offer insights into the creative process, the role of algorithms in shaping perception, and the intersections of art, satire, and sociopolitical commentary in the digital age.
Beeple (born Mike Winkelmann, 1981) is an US-American artist known for his large-scale immersive installations and his long-running project Everydays, through which he has created and published a new digital artwork every day since 2007. His work combines 3D modelling, AI, animation, and satire to reflect on contemporary culture, technology, politics, and consumerism. Beeple gained international recognition for bringing digital art into the art market, most notably with the record-breaking NFT sale of Everydays: The First 5000 Days, a landmark digital collage sold at Christie’s in 2021 for $69million. His practice explores the intersection of art, media, and new technologies, challenging traditional boundaries of authorship and exhibition. With Regular Animals, Beeple extends his longstanding engagement with technology, culture, and satire—this time in a physical–digital hybrid installation.
Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev is a curator, art historian, and former Director of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Turin, and is widely recognized for her leadership of major international exhibitions, including documenta 13 (2012). Christov-Bakargiev’s early interest in Beeple’s work played a key role in bridging the gap between blockchain based art and established contemporary art institutions, framing his practice within broader art-historical and sociopolitical narratives. At Castello di Rivoli, she oversaw the acquisition of a work by Beeple into the museum’s permanent collection, marking one of the first major institutional recognitions of an NFT-based artwork. Beyond this acquisition, the two have engaged in public conversations on digital culture, technology, and the changing conditions of artistic production, contributing to the critical integration of blockchain-based art into established contemporary art institutions.
Since 2024 Lisa Botti is a curator at the Neue Nationalgalerie, after previously serving as Assistant Curator to Director Klaus Biesenbach. Before joining the Neue Nationalgalerie, Botti worked internationally, including at the Biennale of Sydney (2019–2021) and at Chan + Hori Contemporary in Singapore (2017–2019). At Neue Nationalgalerie, she has co-curated major exhibitions such as Isa Genzken. 75/75 (2023), Andy Warhol. Velvet Rage and Beauty (2024), and the upcoming exhibition by Maurizio Cattelan in autumn 2026. She has also contributed to the museum’s performance programming, including the annual PERFORM! festival during Berlin Art Week.
