Interesting insights into the past

Two fascinating excavation findings are accessible in the west kurtine of the citadel. They have been brought together in a showroom that allows visitors to learn about the early history of this special place.

On the one hand, there is an excavation field with the remains of a Slavic wooden earthen wall, the subsequent stone castle wall and the castle complex from the Renaissance period. On the other hand, medieval Jewish gravestones can be seen here, which were presumably removed from the Jewish cemetery in Spandau in the 15th century and used for the construction of the castle. An audio installation reveals the significance of the finds by reading out the inscriptions in Hebrew as well as in German and English translations.
